Build a Project

Last updated: July 9, 2026

Every piece of research in Gather starts with a Project. A Project defines what you want to learn, who you want to hear from, and how the AI conducts the conversation. Gather walks you through five steps, from setting your objective to reviewing responses.

Setting up your project

When you create a project, you define it on the Objective step. You can set it up two ways, and switch between them as you go:

  • AI-Guided Setup — Describe your goal in plain language and Gather drafts the project for you. Best when you want to move fast.

  • Manually Edit — Write the agent’s role, context, and instructions directly for full control. Best when you already know exactly what you want to ask.

The five steps

The flow mirrors how sound research actually works — decide what to learn, choose who to ask, pressure-test it, field it, then read the results — so nothing important gets skipped:

  1. Objective — Define what you want to learn.

  2. Audience — Choose who to talk to.

  3. Test — Brand the experience and preview it.

  4. Launch — Share your webchat link or embed the chat widget.

  5. Conversations — Monitor responses as they come in.

You can move between steps freely before launching, and save your work as a draft at any time.
